Meta Ads Updates 2026: What They Mean for Your Creative

The biggest recent Meta ads updates: Meta told advertisers it would switch on product browsing for existing ads on October 28, video made from static images became generally available in Advantage+ creative on October 6, creative audience pairing now sets age and gender per creative, and from November 12 the Pixel will count more conversions measured on customer devices.

After any of these changes, the real question is whether it moved your results or your creative simply wore out. Segwise is an AI creative analytics and creative generation platform that tags every element of your ads and puts your Meta creative results next to your other networks, so you can compare the weeks before and after an update and see what actually moved.

This page is a changelog. Each entry gives the date Meta announced or rolled out the change, what changed, a link to the source and a line on what the change means for your creative work. Entries marked Meta link to Meta's own pages: Meta for Business news, the Business Help Centre, the Meta Newsroom or the Marketing API changelog. Entries marked Trade press come from a dated report that quotes Meta, because Meta sent the notice to advertisers rather than publishing a page. Newest changes come first.

TL;DR

  • If you make the ads: plan for more machine-made variants (video from statics, Muse Image, image animation, uncrop), map creatives to an age and gender persona now that Meta lets you pair them, and stop briefing for the Instagram Explore placement, which is gone.
  • If you buy the media: check the October 28 product browsing setting on every live ad, mark November 12 in your reports before the Pixel change lands, and turn on the frequency and device breakdowns if your account needs them.
  • If you run reporting or tools on the API: v24.0 stops working on November 10, poll creatives and the web-only app link setting are gone on every version, and legacy Advantage+ shopping and app campaigns can't be created or edited through the API.
  • If you sell in Europe or Türkiye: location fees of 2% to 5% sit on top of your budget for ads delivered in six countries.

What changed in Meta ads this month? (November 2026)

November's changes are scheduled rather than shipped, so this is the list to put in your calendar.

November 20: New Commercial Terms and Self-serve Ad Terms take effect

Meta's Help Centre notice on its streamlined terms says the Ad Creative Generative AI Terms move into the Self-serve Ad Terms, and the Product Catalogue Terms move into the Commercial Terms.
For your creative: the rules for using Meta's generative AI creative tools will sit in the Self-serve Ad Terms from November 20, so send the new text to whoever signs off AI-made ads. Source: Meta.

November 12: The Pixel starts measuring some conversions on the customer's device

A setting called "Measure conversions on customer devices" is on by default for datasets already sending events, and the settings panel reads "Measurement starting November 12, 2026", according to PPC Land's report on the Events Manager change. It can be switched off per dataset.
For your creative: reported conversions can rise on every ad at once with no creative change. Don't credit a new hook for a jump that starts on November 12. Source: trade press citing Meta's settings panel.

November 10: Marketing API v24.0 stops being available

Meta's Marketing API changelog lists v24.0 as available until November 10, 2026, with v25.0 running to February 23, 2027 and v26.0 as the latest.
For your creative: any upload, reporting or creative tool still calling v24.0 can break. Ask your vendors which version they use before a launch week. Source: Meta.

What changed in Meta ads in October 2026?

October 28: Product browsing switched on in existing ads

Meta told advertisers it would add product browsing to existing Facebook and Instagram ads, so a tap may open an in-app view "with product info and personalized suggestions", according to PPC Land's copy of Meta's notice. You can turn it off per ad in Advantage+ Creative and Destination settings. Meta's notice claims 3% more conversions on average from a test it ran in August.
For your creative: the screen after the tap may now be Meta's product view, not your landing page. Ads that promise one specific product should show that product clearly, because Meta will add "personalized suggestions" around it. Source: trade press citing Meta's advertiser notice.

Meta's v26.0 release post says requests that create a poll creative are rejected on all Marketing API versions from October 27, and the web_only app link setting can no longer be used in Website and App campaigns.
For your creative: retire poll-based concepts from your briefs, and check that web-and-app ads still send people where you expect. Source: Meta.

October 22: Unified Sales campaign setup arrives in the API

The 2026 out-of-cycle changes page adds an is_pca_unified field that "consolidates catalog, objective, and creative configuration into a unified hierarchy" for Sales campaigns.
For your creative: your product catalogue and your creative assets are moving into one setup, so keep product titles, prices and images as clean as your ads. Source: Meta.

October 19: Creative audience pairing

The same out-of-cycle page says you can now "set age and gender on the ad creative instead of the ad set", for a whole ad or for a single image or video inside it.
For your creative: this is the most direct creative change on the list. You can build a set of ads for different age and gender personas inside one ad set and tell Meta which creative is meant for whom. Source: Meta.

October 15: Ads Super Burst, First Impression Ads and Aggregated View Time

At its Brand Building Summit, Meta said Ads Super Burst, which books a 3 to 24 hour window with category exclusivity available, is moving to general availability in phases. It is testing First Impression Ads in the US with one brand per day, has 15 standard topics for Reels Trending Ads, and is testing Aggregated View Time in alpha.
For your creative: short, high-reach windows reward one strong, instantly readable concept, and Aggregated View Time hints that a few seconds of brand presence across a week may count for more than one long view. Source: Meta.

October 8: Meta stops accepting ads from ByteDance in seven countries

Meta stopped running ads from ByteDance, and from advertisers whose campaigns link to TikTok and other ByteDance properties, in the US, Canada, Egypt, Indonesia, Japan, Thailand and Vietnam, according to Reuters' report quoting a Meta spokesperson.
For your creative: if your Meta ads send people to a TikTok shop or profile in those countries, rebuild them around your own site or app. Source: trade press citing Meta.

October 6: Advertising Week New York announcements

Meta's Advertising Week post says video generation from existing static assets is now generally available in Advantage+ creative. Ads Creative Studio is rolling out more broadly, with tools to change hooks, audio, clip length, captions and end scenes. Catalogue product images can become product video in beta. Customer Lifecycle Strategy is open to all advertisers, and plain-language audience discovery is due in Detailed Targeting by the end of the year.
For your creative: Meta can now turn any static you upload into a video variant. Decide whether you want that for each static, and judge the generated videos on the same metrics as your own. Source: Meta.

October 6: Video ads in Instagram search results

The same out-of-cycle log says these are "gradually rolling out" for single-video and carousel-video creatives.
For your creative: someone searching already has intent, so a video that names the product or problem in the first frame fits this placement better than a slow brand opener. Source: Meta.

What did Meta change for advertisers in September 2026?

September 29: Instagram Live video ads reach general availability

Meta's IAB Global Creator Week post says live video ads are expanding to Instagram, rolling out from September 29, and can run a creator's live content as a Partnership Ad.
For your creative: live shopping streams become a paid format, so plan the opening minute of a live session the way you would plan a hook. Source: Meta.

September 15: Meta Creator Marketing Hub launches globally

The same post adds one-click ad creation inside the Hub and tools to remove copyrighted music or stickers so creator content is ready to run as an ad.
For your creative: creator posts move from discovery to a drafted Partnership Ad in one tool, so creator content can enter your tests faster. Source: Meta.

September: Threads ads no longer need a matching Instagram username

Meta's Threads business portfolio help page says that starting in September 2026, businesses can run Threads ads from a native Threads profile.
For your creative: text-led creative written for Threads can now run for brands that aren't on Instagram. Source: Meta.

September 1: Lookalike country settings are ignored on every API version

The v26.0 changelog says location for lookalikes now comes from the ad set.
For your creative: nothing for the ad itself, but check that localised creatives still sit in ad sets aimed at the right countries. Source: Meta.

Which Meta ads changes landed in August 2026?

Late August: Messenger Stories placement removed

The v26.0 changelog says the removal applies to all versions in late August, with no action needed on Advantage+ placements. Meta's v26.0 release post gives a later date, October 27, for all versions including unversioned calls.
For your creative: stop making Messenger Stories versions; your Stories and Reels cuts cover the vertical slots that remain. Source: Meta.

August 19: Meta AI can review your Meta ad campaigns

Meta's small business post says Meta AI can now connect to your ad campaigns and surface "which ad creative is no longer resonating and why".
For your creative: Meta AI can now flag an ad that is fading, but it only sees your Meta campaigns. Source: Meta.

August 6: Frequency, device and hourly breakdowns need switching on

Meta's API change notes says these Ads Insights API breakdowns "require enablement for certain Ad Accounts", and admins can request access in Ads Manager.
For your creative: frequency is one of the clearest signals that an ad is wearing out. If your reports suddenly show no frequency data, enable the breakdown before you judge fatigue. Source: Meta.

Catch fading ads beyond Meta: Segwise lets you set your own fatigue threshold and get an email or Slack alert when an ad's ROAS falls past it, with results from Meta and your other networks in one place. Start a free trial.

What were the Facebook ads updates in July 2026?

July 29: Marketing API v26.0 removes the Instagram Explore Feed placement

Meta's v26.0 release post says delivery to Explore stops and "campaign spending will shift automatically to other eligible placements". The same release lets WhatsApp Status carousel ads use up to 10 cards.
For your creative: drop Explore-specific crops from your specs, and make sure your Feed, Stories and Reels versions are strong enough to absorb the spend Meta moves. Source: Meta.

July 20: Profile visit optimisation

Meta's developer change log for 2026 adds ads that optimise for Instagram profile and Facebook Page visits.
For your creative: when the goal is a profile visit, the ad should promise something the profile delivers, such as a product range or a creator series. Source: Meta.

July 16: Ads MCP server rules

Meta's AI connectors post says anyone with full control of a business portfolio can now set rules for what AI agents can do on the ad account, "from budget changes to catalog updates".
For your creative: if an AI tool can upload or edit ads, set those rules before it touches live creative. Source: Meta.

July 7: Muse Image comes to Advantage+ creative

Meta's Muse Image post says its first image model from Meta Superintelligence Labs will power image generation in Advantage+ creative, and that more than 8 million advertisers use at least one of its generative AI creative tools.
For your creative: check every image variant Meta generates against the real product before it runs. Source: Meta.

July 1: Location fees start in six countries

Meta's location fees help page lists fees of 5% in Austria and Türkiye, 3% in France, Italy and Spain, and 2% in the UK, charged on top of your budget based on where ads are delivered. The July 1 start date comes from Reuters' report on the fees.
For your creative: the same creative now costs more to deliver in these markets, so a creative that only just broke even there may not any more. Source: Meta (rates) and trade press (date).

July: The "Your activity off Meta technologies" control goes away

Meta's Newsroom post of June 9 says it is dropping that setting and that the change takes effect in the US and other countries the following month.
For your creative: no change to the ad itself; it changes how people control the data that powers ad relevance. Source: Meta.

Which Meta ads changes shipped in June 2026?

June 28: Image Animation, Video Filter and Video Uncrop

The API change list adds three Advantage+ creative enhancements you can switch on or off per creative: a static becomes "a short, subtly animated video", video colour gets enhanced, and video is "uncropped" to fit other placements.
For your creative: Meta may now change the shape and motion of what you upload. Keep text and logos away from frame edges, and opt out where the brand can't accept changes. Source: Meta.

June 23: Cannes Lions creative tools

Meta's Cannes Lions post announced a creative workspace in testing that learns a "brand memory" from your existing ads. It also extended text generation to text that sits inside image creative, added new languages for text on media and video voiceover, and began testing a creative approval workflow.
For your creative: Meta's tools are learning from your past ads, so a clean, on-brand ad library now shapes the variants Meta suggests. Source: Meta.

June 22: Nielsen DMAs replaced by Comscore Markets

Meta's out-of-cycle log says market-level targeting and reporting moved to Comscore Markets.
For your creative: regional creative reports built on DMA breakdowns need rebuilding before you compare markets. Source: Meta.

June 17: Product data in every Sales campaign, and live video ads expand

Meta's Cannes commerce post says product data becomes "a foundational input across all Sales campaigns" this summer, with Meta assembling "the best-performing ad for each viewer in real time". Meta said it would bring Live Video Ads to Instagram and expand them globally on Facebook.
For your creative: your creative becomes one input that Meta mixes with catalogue data, so supply assets that work alone and next to product cards. Source: Meta.

June 3: Meta Business Agent expands

Meta's Newsroom post says Business Agent is expanding to businesses of all sizes globally and to Instagram.
For your creative: click-to-message ads may now open a conversation with an AI agent, so the ad's promise and the agent's first reply need to match. Source: Meta.

June 1: Audio swap for Instagram Reels ads

Meta's Marketing API notes lets you replace copyrighted music in a Reel with royalty-free audio from Meta's Sound Collection.
For your creative: organic Reels with licensed music can now become ads, but the new track can change how the hook lands, so test it. Source: Meta.

What did Meta change in May and April 2026?

May 19: Legacy Advantage+ shopping and app campaigns closed to the API

Meta's developer blog on the deprecation says these campaigns "can no longer be created or updated using the Marketing API" on any version after May 19. New campaigns use the standard setup with Advantage+ switched on. Our Advantage+ ad creation guide covers the creative settings in the new setup.
For your creative: creative refreshes on old campaigns may now mean building a new campaign, which restarts learning. Source: Meta.

May 4: Marketing API access tiers renamed

The changelog lowered the auto-approval threshold from 1,500 to 500 API calls in 15 days.
For your creative: mainly for developers; smaller creative tools can now get full API access more easily. Source: Meta.

April 29: Meta ads AI connectors in open beta

Meta's connectors post launched an ads MCP server and command line tool, so AI assistants can read campaign performance and create or edit ads.
For your creative: you can now ask an AI assistant about your Meta creative results, but only Meta's results. Source: Meta.

April 15: Pixel AI enrichment and one-click Conversions API

Meta's Pixel and Conversions API post added an option for the Pixel to add page and product details to events automatically, with a 30-day review window before it switches on, plus a one-click Conversions API setup.
For your creative: better product data feeds the catalogue-driven formats above, so product-led ads benefit most. Source: Meta.

A rule of thumb for sorting any new Meta update

Act within 7 days if the change touches what people see, where they see it or where a tap lands. If it changes how results are measured or billed, mark the date in your reports and wait at least 7 days before you pause or scale any ad, then compare ads against each other rather than against last month. If it is an API-only change and you don't use the API, ask your tool vendors and move on.

Decision flow for sorting a Meta ads update into creative team action, media buyer action or watch only

How do you tell if a Meta update changed your creative results?

Meta's own tools now point at creative: Ads Creative Studio shows what's working and why, and Meta AI can flag creative that's fading. Both cover only your Meta ads. When your ads run on Meta, TikTok, Google and AppLovin at once, a Meta change can look like a creative problem, or hide one.

Comparing creative results before and after a Meta change

That's where Segwise's Creative Analytics helps. It joins creative-level results from 15+ networks and your MMP, tags every element in each ad (hook, format, on-screen text, offer) and lets you slice by campaign, country or creative type. To check an update, compare the week before and after its date for each creative. If every Meta ad moves together and other networks don't, it's probably measurement or delivery. If only one kind of creative moves, such as catalogue-style statics after product browsing, it's probably the format. Fatigue Tracking alerts you by email or Slack when an ad's ROAS falls past a threshold you set, such as 20% over 7 days, which helps you separate real fatigue from an update. The ecobee case study reports about 30 hours a week back on manual reporting, with six ad platforms in one place (customer-reported).

What Segwise can't tell you, and how to replace an affected ad

Segwise doesn't show you Meta's internal changes, and it can't tell you why Meta changed something. It shows what changed in your results, so your team decides what to do next. The Creative Generation Agent lets you make statics and videos up to 30 seconds, including AI UGC-style ads, from your own winning patterns, so you can replace an ad hit by a change with a network-ready variant built from what still works. You can use each agent on its own, or do it all in one place by chatting with the Segwise agent: ask how your ads are performing, see what competitors are running, and make new ads from your winners.

Segwise starts at $499/month for advertisers spending up to $250K/month, with a special 50% discount for startups spending under $50K/month, and includes a 7-day free trial.

What the 2026 Meta ads updates mean for your creative plan

Many of Meta's 2026 updates let Meta change or remix what you upload: video from statics, image animation and uncrop, product browsing on existing ads, and product data mixed into every Sales campaign. Your job is to choose which of those switches stay on for each creative, and to brief persona-specific variants now that creative audience pairing exists. The dates to keep in view this month are November 10 for API v24.0, November 12 for the Pixel change and November 20 for the new ad terms. Before you credit a creative with a lift, check whether the lift starts on one of those dates.

How do you keep up with Meta ads updates?

Meta announces changes in several places, and the most important ones for advertisers are sometimes only an in-account notice. Check these:

  • Meta for Business news: product launches and event announcements, such as Advertising Week and Cannes.
  • Meta Newsroom: company-wide news, privacy and policy changes, and agent launches.
  • Marketing API changelog and the out-of-cycle changes page: the most precise dates for placements, formats and fields. Meta says out-of-cycle changes are captured every two weeks.
  • Ads Manager and Events Manager notifications: default switches like product browsing and on-device measurement appear here first, often with an opt-out deadline.
  • The Business Help Centre: fee, terms and settings pages, which Meta revises in place.

A simple routine: check the out-of-cycle page and Business news every other Friday, read every Ads Manager notice that names a date, and log each change with its date next to your creative reports. For testing new formats as they arrive, our Facebook ad creative testing guide covers the setup.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where can I see Meta ads updates today?
Meta spreads its updates across several places. Product launches appear on Meta for Business news (facebook.com/business/news), company and privacy news on the Meta Newsroom (about.fb.com/news), and the most precise dates for placements, formats and fields in the Marketing API changelog and its out-of-cycle changes page, which Meta says it captures every two weeks. Default switches, such as product browsing on existing ads, often appear first as notices inside Ads Manager or Events Manager, so read any notice that names a date.
What are the biggest Facebook ads updates of 2026?
For most advertisers the biggest 2026 changes are: product data becoming an input across all Sales campaigns (announced June 17), Advantage+ creative enhancements that animate statics and uncrop video (June 28), the removal of the Instagram Explore Feed placement in Marketing API v26.0 (July 29), location fees of 2% to 5% in six countries (from July 1), video generation from statics becoming generally available (October 6), creative audience pairing (October 19) and product browsing, which Meta told advertisers it would switch on for existing ads on October 28.
How do I turn off product browsing on my Meta ads?
According to Meta's advertiser notice, as reported by PPC Land on October 15, 2026, you could opt out from the notice before October 28, 2026. After that date you can turn product browsing on or off for each ad in its Advantage+ Creative and Destination settings in Ads Manager. Check every live ad that sends people to a specific product page, because a tap may now open Meta's in-app product view instead.
Will the November 12 Pixel change make my Meta results look better?
It may. Trade press reports that a Pixel setting called Measure conversions on customer devices is on by default from November 12, 2026 for datasets already sending events, and that it is not active for people in the EU or UK. Reported conversions could rise across all your ads at once without any creative change. Mark the date in your reports, compare ads against each other rather than against last month, and wait at least a week before you scale or pause ads because of a jump. You can turn the setting off per dataset in Events Manager.
Can I still run ads in Instagram Explore?
No. Meta's Marketing API v26.0 release on July 29, 2026 says the Instagram Explore Feed placement is no longer available, delivery to Explore stops, and campaign spending shifts automatically to other eligible placements. Ad sets that still name the Explore placement return an error when created or updated, so remove it from manual placement settings.
Can I still create Advantage+ shopping campaigns through the API?
Not in the legacy form. Meta's developer blog says legacy Advantage+ shopping and app campaigns can no longer be created or updated through the Marketing API on any version after May 19, 2026. New campaigns use the standard Sales or App promotion setup with Advantage+ audience, campaign budget and placements switched on.
What is creative audience pairing on Meta?
Creative audience pairing, added to the Marketing API on October 19, 2026, lets you set an age and gender persona on the ad creative instead of the ad set. You opt in per ad set, and you can pair a whole ad or a single image or video inside a multi-media ad; a media asset's own persona takes precedence over the persona on the ad. For creative teams it means you can build variants for different personas inside one ad set and tell Meta which creative is meant for whom.
How often does Meta change its ads platform?
Often. This changelog lists more than 30 dated changes between April and early November 2026, spread across product launches, Marketing API versions (v25.0 in February and v26.0 in July 2026), out-of-cycle API changes captured every two weeks, Help Centre policy pages and in-account notices. A practical routine is to check Meta's out-of-cycle changes page and Business news every other week and log each change with its date next to your creative reports.
